At KANSAI HELIOS we are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment and act responsibly every day and in every action we take. Step by step, we are successfully improving our environmental performance, and the latest rollout brings us closer again to the goals of our ESG strategy. With the objective of increasing the share of recycled materials in packaging, HELIOS Srbija, a member of KANSAI HELIOS, has joined forces with Jokey Serbia, a specialist for sustainable plastic packaging, to tackle the issue of plastic paint containers. This initiative is just the start of moving towards a circular economy in the area of product packaging as well, in order to further reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
R&D cooperation with Jokey
In a six-months project, R&D experts from both companies worked together to develop paint containers from recyclates. The teams were supported by experts from Jokey´s headquarter in Germany, who contributed their vast expertise and experience in the use of recyclates. To achieve optimum product properties, the buckets were tested extensively in the laboratory with regard to aspects such as handle stability, colouration, compression pressure, and impermeability. It was followed by intensive testing on the production site in Serbia on packaging lines and mixing systems. The new buckets are made of 35% post-consumer recyclates (PCRs) from household and commercial waste collections and 65% post-industrial recyclates (PCI) from Jokey´s production waste. Only the bucket lid is made of new plastic. The new recycled plastic containers are nevertheless 100% recyclable themselves due to the use of mono-material.
Primera and Linea product ranges already available in recycled packaging
Since March 2023, the interior wall paint portfolio Primera and Linea from our brand Zorka Color have been available in the newly developed containers, which will soon be rolled out across the entire product range of HELIOS Srbija. The look of the Primera and Linea product lines remains the same: the colour design is applied during the in-mold labelling process and covers the entire bucket. The only difference to the former packaging is a grey line running along the upper rim under the lid because the recyclate plastic material is grey.
Recycled plastic packaging contributes to saving many thousands of tonnes of plastic each year. The new containers represent a significant step forward on our way towards a circular economy.

KANSAI HELIOS works constantly on improving the environmental footprint and building a carbon-neutral future. The step towards sustainable packaging solutions is one of many measures the company has taken to pursue its ESG strategy. Recyclate containers optimised for our products reduce our environmental footprint significantly along the entire value chain. Soon, their use will be extended to the entire product range of HELIOS Srbija and to the product ranges of other KANSAI HELIOS companies, such as Helios TBLUS and Chromos.
