Premium corrosion protection for the new check-in hall at Frankfurt airport

Frankfurt Airport’s new Terminal 3 is one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects, scheduled for completion in 2026 with a budget of around 4 billion euros. The modern check‑in hall will handle up to 19 million passengers annually. Haslinger Stahlbau GmbH, a long‑standing partner of KANSAI HELIOS Austria, is responsible for the steel structure, which is protected by a high‑performance corrosion protection system.

The hall spans 150 meters in length, 78 meters in width, and reaches a height of 18 meters, enclosed by a nearly seamless steel‑glass façade. Its 26,000 m² roof structure –about 8,000 tons in total – was assembled on a special 6,500 m² platform and hydraulically slid 200 meters into place in five massive segments.

KANSAI HELIOS developed a specialized coating system to meet the demanding matte finish, ensuring a uniform appearance and long‑term durability. The multilayer corrosion protection system safeguards the steel structure for decades, reducing maintenance needs and ensuring lasting safety and functionality.
